How can people be in favor of mandatory gay history classes AND of letting more Muslims into the country? Don't they realize this will just increase the number of people who are against mandatory gay history classes? |
| Since Muslims behead homosexuals, there will be no attenders of the "Mandatory" class.. |

| Both seem to weaken traditional western civilization and its values, so I believe many liberals favor both. |
Anyone know of book that tells the history of the gay civil rights struggle in America? Or just a book on gay history in general? Anything along those lines. Please tell! |
| look up the stonewall inn riots. new york city. 1969 |
So what do you think of gay history month in school? This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard? I'm not sure of the specifics, but it's something along the lines of gays trying to start gay history month in schools in philadelphia. That is so HILARIOUS! |
| Gay history? What the hell is gay history? Learning about famous gay ppl? It's like that episode of south park where everyone goes metro sexual, or that other episode where they start a dead fetus on the head month for the school nurse. It is ridiculous. I am in no way anti-gay but come on. |
Should we make October Gay History Month? Then you could learn about all of the Gays throughout History.
Alexander the Great was Gay.
Augustus Caesar was Gay.

What do you think about gay history being taught in schools? California will be the first state to allow. There is a bill that has to go tru senate and then to governor's desk. Since governor is democrat the bill will be signed. What do you think will be the next state to allow. Already gay marriage is starting to be accepted more in this country. This bill marks a milestone in civil rights. |
| Thank God the us democrats are standing up for gay people. Besides jews, they are they most put down people ever. Hopefully people can accept the teachings of gay history, after all we have to do black history every year, but really goes on all year in my school because there are so many black guys(we even have to learn about malcolm x and he was a huge racist, but we have to learn that racism is wrong somehow, it is all backwards...). |
What is the best book to read if I wanted to learn about gay history? I want to know about the complete gay liberal movement and how everything started with homosexuality. Does anybody know a book that has everything on homosexuality? Thanks |
| sorry i cant name any books but i get most of my lgbt history on wikipedia lol |
Should gay history be taught in schools? I think on the day of silence they should teach about what gays have faced through history and how we came to be where we are now. |
Minimally, the history of the Stonewall Riots, the story of Harvey Milk, and the Supreme Court of the United States cases of Bowers v. Hardwick and Lawrence v. Texas should be taught.
In 1969, for the first time on record, homosexual people fought back against their oppressors when the Stonewall Inn was raided one hot summer night by New York City policemen who came hoping to arrest gay individuals for engaging in then illegal acts such as dancing with the same sex.
The "first openly gay man elected to any substantial political office in the history of the planet" was Harvey Milk, who became a San Francisco City Supervisor in 1978. He was assassinated later that year.
In 1986 a man was arrested in Georgia for engaging in a private consensual sexual act with another man in his own home, and the Supreme Court agreed that it was against the law. In 2003, the Supreme Court reversed that decision and said that their 1986 ruling "was not correct when it was decided, is not correct today, and is hereby overruled." |
What would be a good thesis statement for a paper on the history of gay rights? im doing a history paper on the struggle of gay people in America and the history of it. Could anyone think of a good thesis statement and toss in anything else that you think would help. |
"Throughout history gays and lesbians have been persecuted and denied rights unjustifiably, and there is absolutely no reason for this as it is oppressive and and morally wrong."
It's quite a pointless essay if you ask me, but I think you might be convincing if you use the thesis statement above. |
Why did the gay revolution take place only now, so late in history? There have always been gay people. When and where in history have gay and lesbien people organized and demanded their rights? Why did it happen only recently? Since the 70s. |
First, in many earlier cultures, homosexuality was accepted, and there was no need for a "revolution."
Secondly, the civil rights movements in the US and the spread of liberal democracy across Western Europe have helped to allow people to express their opinions, and have shown the way in which peaceful protest and public relations can help.
Thirdly, the erosion of the Christian church as a moral guide in society has also been important. Gender equality, divorce rights, and increasing religious tolerance (at least in the legal sense) have set the stage for sexual orientation to also become a category which requires equality before the law.
With regards to Louie: The definition and limitations of marriage have changed many times over just the last few centuries, let alone over the history of marriage. Until 1969, it was illegal for a black person to marry a white person in many of the states in the Union. The supreme court found that this was unconstitutional. Thereby, equality was upheld and the definition of marriage, at least in those states, was changed. Age and consanguinity limitations have also changed a lot over the years. Look, it's not unconstitutional to allow same sex couples to marry the person they love. It doesn't change the definition of marriage, it merely broadens it slightly. Marriage out to be a contract of commitment between consenting adults. Period. |
